"My experience with Northwest black pioneers and the black college tour was amazing. I attended the black college tour during my junior year of high school where I was a student at Rainier Beach High School. We had the opportunity to go away for almost two weeks and we visited 22 schools during our trip. We flew in to Washington DC and flew home from New Orleans Louisiana. The Experience taught me a lot about what I wanted in a college experience and helped me decide not only wear to apply butt in the long run we're to attend. I chose Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for my undergraduate degrees. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely go on the college tour and would absolutely choose my University again. Currently I am an assistant principal with the Renton School District, former Miss plus America Elite, DJ, and National pageant coach. My experiences have been wonderful and I owe a lot of who I am to my Foundation and the college tour is a huge part of my Foundation". - Makela

"I had the pleasure to take part in the black college tour three times while I was in high school. This tour gave me a great opportunity to see a bunch of historical black colleges and universities that I would not have even known existed if it wasn’t for the tour. I was able to see the college atmosphere and see a bunch of young black students who were striving for excellence. Out of all the universities we toured, the one that stuck with me the most was Norfolk State University, which is where I chose to attend. My experience there was a great one, I was fortunate enough to earn a football scholarship to get my schooling paid for, I met a lot of people and lifelong friends from a lot of different places during my time at NSU. The class sizes are a lot smaller compared to other big universities and the smaller student to teacher ratio allowed me to get more one on one instruction from my professors as well as build relationships with them. I graduated from NSU in 2007 with a bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration on health and physical education. I would advise anyone who gets this opportunity to go on this tour to soak it all in and take advantage of the opportunity. It’s an experience of a life time and a chance to take a step in the right direction into your future." - Robbie
